MegaCon (Orlando, FL) (April 2015)
MegaCon is a massive comic book, sci-fi, and pop culture convention held each year in Orlando. This year's guests included Stan Lee, Lou Ferringo ("The Incredible Hulk"), some actors from "Firefly" and "Doctor Who", and a number of comic book artists. This year, I co-hosted a panel discussion with JET of Limn Interactive about the history and development of video games, from programming in assembly language on the Apple II computer to using Poser models in Unity, and even what the future might bring. I also talked about the development of digital artwork, from writing programs to draw lines to early paint programs to making digital models in software like Lightwave and Poser. The panel was scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm, and by 12:45, the queue of people waiting to get in had stretched down the hallway! The room had about 200 chairs, but they filled up fast once everyone was let in. When the panel was ready to start, there were plenty of people standing on the rear and side walls, so we estimated there were about 250 people in all. One of the fun things that happened on the way to the room was that they met a lady who dressed as Padme from "Star Wars: Episode II- Attack of the Clones". She even helped us pass out flyers to people as they came into the room! To see more photos of MegaCon, our panel, and lots of cool costumes, see my MegaCon 2015 Gallery on Facebook. |
